Advent Devotional at Christ the King – Houston

I am contributing to an Advent Devotional at Christ the King.  I will be posting my contributions on this website as well.

Five Reasons to Observe Advent

The Sojourn Music blog has posted “Five Reasons You Should Celebrate Advent.”

5. It’s the antidote to the commercial “Christmas season.”

4. It’s an opportunity to rehearse and emphasize the whole gospel as part of the Christian year.

3. It’s a way to live in hope (even in perilous times).

2. It provides a place and structure for lament.

Advent Hymns

I’ve posted lead sheets for two Advent hymns that I’ve written in years past: Savior of the Nations, Come and O Quickly Come, Dread Judge of All.

Here’s a clip of Savior of the Nations, Come.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

In addition, I’ve taken the time to write out the list of Advent hymns from three hymnals. I hope that this list is beneficial.
