We’ve moved to a different server and have been down for a few days. Thankfully, a few good import/export plugins have made the transition to the new server much easier than I feared. I’ve got the notebook back up and running and I will have the entire site back up in a few weeks.

I’m sticking my head up for a few hours to update the site while I’m in the midst of my finals. I turned in 2 of my term papers this morning and I’ve got a busy week of final exams next week followed by graduation next Friday evening. It’s a very busy time!

I’ll be updating the notebook and the site a little more often this summer, though I’ll be preparing for my ordination exams, so I might be a little more bogged down than I’d like. For now, the notebook (blog) is back online and other aspects of the website will follow.

I’m not sure how successful it will be if you are on a slower connection. I’m still working on tweaking the setup of the plugin.

I wrote “May Your Kingdom Come” this summer as a setting of the Lord’s Prayer. Spending time on both words and music took much longer than some of my other settings. I turned to a book by NT Wright, The Lord and His Prayer for some inspiration. I’ve always thought that if you wish to write well, you should read people whom you consider to be good writers.

[Edit: I noticed that I made a grammatical error in the initial posting. That's been fixed.]

Slowly but surely the site is coming together. In the next few days and weeks lead sheets will be added, content will be uploaded and the whole thing will generally get going. The site won’t be launching all at once, instead we’ll steadily keep adding content. In that respect, it’ll be very much like the perfect tense of Greek verbs.

In my first semester of Biblical Greek, Dr. Mawhinney described the perfect tense as the “present result of a past action”. For example, in [bible]1 John 1[/bible], where the Apostle John writes: [bibleblock]1 John 1:1[/bibleblock] Dr. Mawhinney said that it could be translated as “which we have heard (and our ears are still ringing), which we have seen (and still see with our mind’s eye)” to reflect the perfect tense.

I’ve always wanted to use that idea in a lyric but have never figured out a way to make the rest of the lyrics sound as good as what Dr. Mawhinney gave me.
